Under and Over the Rainbow at Ohlsdorf Park Cemetery

The Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg, Germany, is the largest park cemetery in the world. Under old and magnificent trees you can enjoy the green wealth for which it is rightly famous. With its 389 hectares, it is also Hamburg’s largest green area.

The association Memento e.V. has acquired a sponsored grave at the Rosengarten in order to give those who have died of HIV a dignified resting place. The AIDS ribbon can be seen on the base. The burial site is now fully occupied and there has been a second one on the “Million Hill” since 1999. In 2021, the association decided to also open its graves to people from the LGBTIQ* community. Members and friends visit the two tombs twice a year. On June 6th, 2022, a large rainbow flag was carried across the park area and the trumpeter Gero Weiland played ‚Over the rainbow‘ on the „Million Hill“. Filmed by Klaus-Dieter Begemann, PINK CHANNEL.
