TEDDY AWARD – The Queer Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival
DIE GEWINNER/THE WINNERS
Berlin, 18.02. 2022
Die vier Mitglieder der internationalen Jury sichten Filme mit queerem Kontext aus allen
Sektionen der Berlinale. In jeder Kategorie werden Filme nominiert und je einer gewinnt den
TEDDY AWARD für den besten Langfilm, den besten Kurzfilm, den besten Dokumentarfilm und
den Jurypreis.
The four members of the international jury view films of queer interest within all sections of the
Berlinale. Films are nominated and one wins in each of the categories: Best Feature Length Film,
Best Short Film, Best Documentary and the Jury Award.
Der TEDDY für den besten Langfilm geht an/ The TEDDY for Best Feature Film goes to

Begründung der Jury:
Ein Film, der das Queer-Sein und die wundervollen Verbindungen, die eine Familie und eine
Community ausmachen, zelebriert und drei Hauptfiguren porträtiert, die während einer globalen
Pandemie in einer surrealen Reise voller Magie, Nostalgie und Drag frei durch Sao Paulo ziehen!
Regisseur Gustavo Vinagre und sein gesamtes Ensemble präsentieren eine Welt, in der man
selbst zu sein der Schlüssel zur Selbstverwirklichung ist, und verwandeln einen Mikrokosmos
bunter Figuren in eine berührende Hommage an das Leben selbst.
Jury Statement:
A film that celebrates queerness and the beautiful bonds that make a family and a community,
presenting three central characters that roam free around Sao Paulo during a global pandemic in
a surreal journey full of magic, nostalgia, and drag! Director Gustavo Vinagre and his entire
ensemble present a world in which being yourself is key to self-realization, turning a
microcosmos of colorful characters into a touching tribute to life itself.

Begründung der Jury:
Eine Stadt in der Morgendämmerung. Der Verkehr fließt mit voller Geschwindigkeit. Ein Mann ist
schweißgebadet, während er immer tiefer in seinen Schlaf fällt. Mit dem Auf und Ab seines
Atems werden wir (tiefer) in seine Welt hineingezogen. Ein Film, der sich nicht vor der Schönheit
der menschlichen Form scheut und sowohl die Sinnlichkeit als auch die Funktionalität des
Körpers zeigt.
Jury Statement:
A city at the break of dawn. Traffic is flowing at full speed. A man is drenched by his sweat as he
falls deeper into sleep. With the rise and fall of his breath, we are pulled (deeper) into his world. A
film that does not shy away from the beauty of human form. exhibiting both the sensuality and
functionality of the body.

Begründung der Jury:
Dieser fesselnde und berührende Dokumentarfilm gibt durch die imaginäre Existenz von Alis
einen Einblick in die Welt seiner jungen Protagonisten. Der Film zeigt Erinnerungen, Kämpfe und
Hoffnungen mit Leichtigkeit und Sorgfalt und ist eine wunderbare Hommage an die Wahrheiten,
sei es über ihre Identitäten oder ihre Realitäten. Die Gelegenheit, junge Stimmen zu erleben, die
ihre Geschichten durch das erzählerische Werkzeug ihres Freundes Alis ausdrücken, ist
gleichzeitig fesselnd und aufbauend.
Jury Statement:
Through the imagined existence of Alis, this engrossing and touching documentary provides
insight into the world of its young protagonists. Navigating their memories, struggles, and hopes
with ease and care, this film plays beautiful tribute to the truths, whether it is about their identities
or their realities. The opportunity to see young voices express their stories through the narrative
tool of their friend Alis is simultaneously spellbinding and edifying.

Begründung der Jury:
Dieser Film veranschaulicht die Notwendigkeit queerer Geschichte und eines queeren kollektiven
Gedächtnisses des Zweiten Weltkriegs, während er gleichzeitig den vergessenen Opfern und
Überlebenden des Holocausts die längst nötige Anerkennung zuteilwerden lässt.
Er spricht über nicht erwähnte lesbische Biografien und ungehörte Stimmen.
All diese wichtigen Bereiche abzudecken, würde sich für die meisten Filme als schwierig
erweisen, aber mit NELLY UND NADINE und ihrer außergewöhnlichen Liebe, die allen Widrigkeiten
zum Trotz überlebt hat, bekommen wir diese Geschichte von Mut und Widerstandskraft, die mit
Anmut erzählt wird und bei jedem Zuschauer einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlässt.
Jury Statement:
This film exemplifies the necessity of queer history and queer collective memory of WWII while
providing long-needed recognition of the forgotten victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
It speaks about unmentioned lesbian biographies and unheard voices.
To cover all of these areas of importance would prove difficult for most films, but with NELLY
AND NADINE and their extraordinary love that survived against all odds, we get this story of
courage and resilience, told with grace, leaving a lasting impact on every viewer.
Mitglieder der Jury/Members of the Jury
Faridah Gbadamosi hat in einer Vielzahl von Funktionen bei verschiedenen Filmfestivals und
anderen Filmorganisationen gearbeitet, darunter das California Film Institute, Athena Film
Festival, Tribeca, SIFF und viele andere. Neben ihrer Programmarbeit ist sie auch Vertriebsleiterin
bei Open Your Eyes and Think MF, der Vertriebsabteilung von David Magdael & Associates,
Beraterin für verschiedene Filmprojekte und freiberufliche Kulturkritikerin. Vor kurzem wurde sie
zur künstlerischen Leiterin von Outfest ernannt und freut sich sehr darauf, die Zukunft der
Organisation in ihrem 40ten Jahr.
Faridah Gbadamosi has worked in a variety of capacities at various film festivals and other film
organisations, including the California Film Institute, Athena Film Festival, Tribeca, SIFF and many
others. In addition to her programming work, she is also the Distribution Manager at Open Your
Eyes and Think MF, the distribution division of David Magdael & Associates, a consultant for
various film projects, and a freelance cultural critic. She was recently appointed Artistic Director
of Outfest and is very much looking forward to shaping the future of the organisation in its 40th
year.
Joanna Ostrowska hat in Geisteswissenschaften promoviert und ist Dozentin am Lehrstuhl für
Judaistik an der Jagielloński Universität (Krakau), für Gender Studies an der Universität Warschau
und für polnisch-jüdische Studien am Institut für Literaturforschung der Polnischen Akademie der
Wissenschaften. Sie forscht zum Thema der vergessenen Opfer des Holocaust und der queeren
Geschichte des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Sie ist Filmkritikerin, Mitglied des Auswahlkomitees für das
Krakauer Filmfestival und Programmgestalterin des LGBT-Filmfestivals in Warschau.
Joanna Ostrowska holds a PhD in Humanities and is a lecturer in the Department of Jewish
Studies at the Jagielloński University (Krakow), in Gender Studies at the University of Warsaw and
in Polish-Jewish Studies at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
She researches on the topic of the forgotten victims of the Holocaust and the queer history of the
Second World War. She is a film critic, a member of the selection committee for the Krakow Film
Festival and a programmer for the LGBT Film Festival in Warsaw.
Pepe Ruiloba ist Filmmprogrammer und -kritiker aus Mexiko-Stadt. Er arbeitete in der Produktion
von Filmen und Werbespots, bevor er sechs Jahre lang beim Internationalen Filmfestival von
Guadalajara als Programmgestalter und Koordinator des Premio Maguey tätig war, einer
Wettbewerbssektion, die LGBTQ+-Filme vorstellt. Derzeit programmiert er den Queer-Strang des
Raindance Film Festivals in London und die Árbol Rojo Film Exhibition im Südosten Mexikos. Er
arbeitet auch als Drehbuchautor und Supervisor in der lokalen Produktionsfirma Studio
Palíndromo und ist Filmkritiker für die Zeitung Reforma, eines der größten
Printmedienunternehmen in Mexiko und Lateinamerika. Pepe war auch Mitglied mehrerer
Filmfestival-Jurys, darunter das Tel Aviv International LGBT Film Festival und die Queer Palm in
Cannes.
Pepe Ruiloba is a film programmer and critic from Mexico City. He worked in film production and
commercials before spending six years at the Guadalajara International Film Festival as a
programmer and coordinator of Premio Maguey, a competition section showcasing LGBTQ+
films. He currently programmes the queer strand of the Raindance Film Festival in London and
the Árbol Rojo Film Exhibition in southeast Mexico. He also works as a screenwriter and
supervisor in the local production company Studio Palíndromo and is a film critic for Reforma
newspaper, one of the largest print media companies in Mexico and Latin America. Pepe has also
served on several film festival juries, including the Tel Aviv International LGBT Film Festival and
the Queer Palm in Cannes.
Robert Moussa ist Gründer und Leiter des Soura Film Festivals, einem in Berlin ansässigen
queeren Filmfestival, das filmische Talente aus der Region Südwestasien und Nordafrika
(SWANA) ins Rampenlicht rückt und 2019 gegründet wurde. Er schloss sein Studium an der
American University of Beirut mit einem Bachelor in Massenkommunikation ab und zog dann
nach Prag, um seiner Leidenschaft für Film an der FAMU nachzugehen. Er wurde als Jurymitglied
für die 15. Ausgabe des Xposed Film Festivals ausgewählt.
Robert Moussa is the founder and director of Soura Film Festival, a Berlin-based queer film
festival spotlighting cinematic talent from the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region,
founded in 2019. He graduated from the American University of Beirut with a Bachelor’s degree in
Mass Communication and then moved to Prague to pursue his passion for film at FAMU. He was
selected as a jury member for the 15th edition of the Xposed Film Festival.
